When running VMWare 9 some older VMware 8 images may give this error
Firstly, remove the vmpl file from the problem virtual machines directory and restart the machine, it will give an error message and fail.
Secondly, edit the vmx file in notepad and remove the following lines
policy.vm.managedVM = “FALSE”
policy.vm.managedVMTemplate = “TRUE”
policy.vm.mvmtid = “52 d6 6f f9 f3 36 0f 9f-31 da 9f f5 90 7b ce 76”
Job done.
